Duncan has posted an excellent 2 part blog on the Macalister Wetland Reserve [

here]. I visited this morning hoping to spot some crakes. But as I descended the path from Princess Street, I could hear a heap of cheeping going on. I looked over the edge of the rushes to spot a bevy of Black-fronted Dotterels and a guardian Red-kneed Dotterel.
Alas, no crakes today.
